Revolutionary Educator

Dr. KiMi Wilson, CEO and Founder

I want every child happy. And right now too many children are suffocating in outdated, uninspiring educational spaces. I’m not new to this work. Second-grade Black and Brown faces in Compton Unified School District launched my crusade and forced me to grow — disrupting biases and presuppositions to develop a better, faster, stronger facilitator of knowledge. They forced a kid who grew up in a loving, working middle class Black family to see them, value their community, cherish their smiles, and hear their cries. They were the driving force of balancing late nights and early mornings, juggling my first year of teaching and graduate school coursework. They helped me cross the finish line, armed with knowledge to help them and other children who come after them. I am forever indebted to them.

And because of them I went on to teach at other schools and school districts, develop math and science curriculum for an innovative charter high school in South Los Angeles, spearhead outreach initiatives to increase diversity in engineering for a National Science Foundation center at the University of California, Los Angeles, to becoming a tenure-track professor in the Curriculum and Instruction division at California State University, Los Angeles. Thinking I had reached the pinnacle of my career, voices of my second-graders, who are now adults, still haunt and let me know – you ain’t done. I created Equation 2 Success to transform learning for the next generation of amazing minds — as there is still more important work to be done. I want every child happy, so I’ve got to keep my foot on the gas. Just for the record, I am a proud graduate of Loyola Marymount University (Sociology/African American Studies), Pepperdine University (Education), and Cal State LA (Urban Teaching and Learning, Educational Leadership).
